Maggie Bell & Dave Kelly & BBQ
The Inn at Lathones
As a teenager Bell sang with local dance bands in Glasgow, and in the mid-1960s she went to Germany to sing at US air force bases. On returning to Scotland, she and her partner, guitarist, Leslie Harvey formed a group called Power which later became Stone The Crows. But tragedy struck in 1972 when, in a freak accident, Harvey was fatally electrocuted on stage. With fellow Scots guitarist, Jimmy McCulloch (later with Wings), and drummer, Colin Allen (later with Focus), the band continued for a few months. "But really when Leslie died, the heart went out of the group, and it was never the same again." Stone The Crows broke up the following year, and for Bell, a new era began as a solo singer.  Tickets £35 Tel : 01334 840494 www.mundellmusic.com

‘GUSSET’ Comedy and pathos meet on the factory floor ...
Pauline Potter’s gusset is her guiding light and her epicentre. She has worked in the factory for twenty years as a ‘Floater’ and that by definition means she floats from one job to another. Pauline feels trapped and is desperate to get out, she is learning to be a writer at night school and with her new book ‘Gusset Path to Life’ anything is possible.
The gusset determines the way a woman moves and feels. If it is cut the wrong way dramatic changes take place. If you are experiencing mood swings, manic depression, irrational behaviour and want to kill the nearest man to you… check your gusset out!  I did and it changed my life.

The Big Tent Festival
A place apart – poetry in verse, sound and motion

At this year’s Big Tent Festival, poetry will play a unique and inspirational role. Set in A Place Apart, a quiet corner in the unfinished, atmospheric and beautiful memorial chapel, the poetry programme will include poems, stories and music that
connect us to the natural world and focus on the uniqueness of places.

On Friday evening Trio Verso will perform with Brian Johnstone reading his poetry to improvised music from Richard Ingham (saxophone) and Louise Major (double bass).

On Saturday Quixote will play music inspired by the poems of Lorca, as well as other original compositions by this talented group of musicians.

Other poets who will be reading and discussing their work, as well as leading walks through the woods and workshops over the weekend include:

Anna Crowe poet, translator and creative writing tutor living in St. Andrews. Anna co-founded StAnza, the St Andrews poetry festival, and was Artistic Director for its first seven years. Her published work includes Punk with Dulcimer (Peterloo, 2005).

Mandy Haggith an extraordinarily talented writer of poetry, prose and fiction as well as being a ‘cybercrofter’ in Assynt and passionate campaigner on behalf of the world’s forests. Her first poetry collection, Castings (Two Ravens Press 2007) was widely acclaimed.

Brian Johnstone: co-founder and until this year Festival Director of StAnza. Brian will be reading from his new collection of poems, The Book of Belongings (Arc, 2009), as well as performing with Trio Verso on Friday night.

Gerry Loose: a "slow-moving nomad", lives in Glasgow, writes poems and makes gardens; his poems are as often found planted in gardens as on the printed page. His most recent collection of poems is that person himself (Shearsman 2009), and he is currently working on a book about Sunart oakwoods, Ardnamurchan.

Tessa Ransford: Founder/Director of the Scottish Poetry Library, Tessa has numerous published poetry collections, including Not Just Moonshine (Luath, 2008). She is a freelance poetry adviser and practitioner, with special interest in relating poetry to those working creatively in other fields. In the adjacent Lapidus poetry tent there will be workshops on writing poetry of place - culminating each day with open-mic sessions in the chapel for new poets to read their work.
