Tentsmuir point nature reserve is a special nature reserveTentsmuir Point National Nature Reserve. Here the sediment from the mighty River Tay (Britain’s largest river) swirls in currents and tides forming the Abertay Sands. The shoreline grows five metres each year.

The Reserve is of enormous value for wildfowl and waders between autumn and spring: pink feet geese, bar-tailed godwits, eiders and more.

Throughout the year as many as 2000 common and grey seals sit on the sands.

The Reserve lies 2.5 miles east of Tayport or 1.5 miles north of the Forestry Car Park. Contact SNH 01382 553 704 for info.

Fife is a great place to cycle as it is relatively flat

The cycling routes of fife series of maps for cyclists in fife

Cycling Routes in Fife. The Tourist Information Centre has a series of maps for cyclists, covering the Kingdom of Fife Millennium Cycle Way Project.

Many of the routes are off-road, circular, recreational routes, urban routes or forest routes produced in partnership with the Forestry Commission.

St Andrews itself has a flat terrain, with East and West Sands a short distance cycle-ride away, making a bike a great way to get about.
